COAX is a collective of musicians, created in 2008 and in a label...

With violence and poetry, Tendresse speaks to us of tomorrow—of the possibility of friendship, encounter, care, love, and revolution within atomized societies crushed by oppressive systems, algorithmic omnipotence, the abuse of bodies, and enforced silence. Must we consent to plunge toward hell? How do we straighten our bodies? How do we make words dance on our lips before they burn the depths of our souls? Tripes keeps light as its guide, and through Tendresse asks us this final, simple, essential question: “How are you?”

Julien Chamla: drums, vocals, composition Quares: electric bass, vocals Julien Pontvianne: clarinet, vocals, harmonium

TRIPES 'TENDRESSE'

Doit-on consentir à plonger vers l’enfer? »

Julien Chamla : batterie, voix, composition Quares : basse électrique, voix Julien Pontvianne : clarinette, voix, harmonium

TRIPES 'Tendresse'

The album, titled « Même le singe tombe de l’arbre », refers to a Japanese proverb meaning that nobody is perfect. Unlike purely electronic music, the group offers a fusion of acoustic and synthesized sounds — a challenge both live and in the studio. This blend, far from natural, gives the music a living quality and, consequently, an element of imperfection.
Across the seven tracks of this project, Tribalism 3 remains true to the direction of its previous albums while exploring its own vision of the tribal. Inspired by Yann Joussein’s numerous Franco-Japanese tours and collaborations, the theme of Japanese proverbs naturally emerged to illustrate the album.
« Les gâteaux tombent de l’étagère » means that luck can smile even on those who don’t expect it, while « Si tu es pressé, fais un détour » suggests that it is wiser to take a long and safe route than an unknown shortcut.

With striking physicality, the raw, organic, and industrial tones intertwine with the demands of acousmatic art. The soundscapes are built, deconstructed, and then fade before our eyes. The music becomes a physical and instinctive language, immersing the listener in an intense sensory experience at the border of sound and matter.

SIMON HENOCQ 'WE USE COOKIES'

At the crossroads of 60s rock and sound art, ABACAXI has a sweet heart and a skin covered in thorns. Formed by Julien Desprez, this new classic rock formula (guitar + bass + drums) carves out the contours of an intense, electric sound sculpture. The trio, made up of Francesco Pastacaldi on drums, Jean François Riffaud on bass and Julien Desprez on guitar, create a new, energetic music, somewhere between luminous noise and sharp textures - completed by a choreography of stroboscopic lights controlled directly from the stage by the musicians

Energies close to a France-England Crunch of the 6 Nations tournament, where spectators finish the match exhausted. Our mirror neurons suffered the onslaught of the guitarist's hiccups, the drummer's incessant waves of acceleration, his crescendos, his polyrhythms - the guitar in the heights, the openings of toms on the right side then in the left ear while the guitarist rushes in the center - ruck, rolls on the barrels from left to right - opening. With this second album"Asák", Håla Duett refines her recipe mixing Tuareg scales and melodies, Gnawa rhythms and a touch of noise rock... The lyrics as well as the music reflect the mixture practiced by Håla Duett. Sung in English, Hausa or in a melodic language created for the occasion, they deal with popular subjects such as resisting the oppressor, the abolition of borders or the relationship to religion. Asák, for example, designates both a piece of traditional music among the Tuareg and a village in Norway or Iran.

Inspired by noise and acoustic and electronic rhythms, Yann Joussein's solo is an invitation to trance and a singular dance, a tunnel of sound that takes us on a journey from the world of Keiji Haino to the dreamlike world of Ken Ikeda, from kraut rock influences to the the rebellious energy of 60s free jazz. On this album, drums, an analog synthesizer and a sampler.

In the continuity of Tribalism3 and Håla Duett, inspired by rhythms from the world, "ktbh" the slogan of the Australian democrats in the 80s is a way of saying that all politicians are corrupt, and that we are going to take care of that.

We are already in the 21st century and everything is still to be done. As the main song of the upcoming album says, based on an ostinato of repetitive analog synthesizesr and an endless loop of drums, “You can do it”. “Free the music” composed using a synthetic Indian tampoura and a rhythmless drum pattern is a perfect slogan to say that if I can do it, so can you. An ironic way of drawing a parallel with the methods we use today to produce sound.

KEEP THE BASTARDS HONEST (YANN JOUSSEIN)

This album was recorded at the Performing Art Forum, a former convent that has become a performance and creation venue. Its multiple spaces are full of stories that resonate in the present, we can feel history through every wall. The sound imprints and acoustics, reproduced in detail, are constitutive of the music and have accompanied the musicians gestures and improvisations throughout the recordings. The progression of the pieces, each inspired by the place in which they were improvised, is the mark of this desire for elasticity affirmed in the title of the album: Gummi, meaning 'elastic' in German.

GUMMI

Trained as a visual artist and after graduating from the School of Fine Arts in Rouen (France) where he made installations and performances, Jean-François Riffaud gradually turned himself towards music. Having attended for ten years both alternative networks, as well as SMAC, Jazz clubs and national scenes within various groups (Syntax Error, Electric Vocuhila, Parquet, ABACAXI, The World), he elaborates in 2020 “BETEL”, a minimal piece for electric guitar that synthesizes its “plastic” way of considering the musical act.

Influenced as much by Tony Conrad, John Fahey, Moondog and Morton Subotnik as by electric music from sub-Saharan Africa (Sunny Ade, Flamme Kapaya, Alick Macheso, Japanese Maladi), he uses repetition of patterns and their “mutation” to take the listener into an initiatory experience, a sound and mental sculpture.

RIFO - BETEL

Tumulus is an amplified saxophone solo. The ancestral saxophone sound is treated, distorted, transformed to become an electric instrument where timbers transport us to an unexplored universe, maybe a disturbing one. Tumulus uses raw sounds with slow evolutions which can remind us physical matter. An audio interpretation of visual art forms.

Antoine Viard : Saxophone

A Coax Records & Carton Records coproduction

TUMULUS (Antoine Viard)

Might Brank is a solo for drums, percussion, voice, vocoder and electronics, which promises the discovery of a rather unusual music world. There is something deep and spiritual about this kind of trance which has its roots in medieval secular music, progressive rock and traditional music from the Far East.

La Peuge in May was born out of the desire to link the workers' struggles of spring 1968 with the contemporary research of improvisers and composers.
One Friday afternoon in September 2016, I decided to record a conversation with my maternal grandparents around certain episodes of their life in which I had a great interest: their childhood during the Second World War, their working conditions in as workers in Peugeot factories, their experience of strikes and union struggles.
From this spontaneous and apparently aimless interview - if not to keep a record - was born the desire to know more about the episode of May 68 in the region of Montbéliard: strikes, occupations of factories, demonstrations. I have set up a system for recording interviews with other former workers, activists or union officials, increasing the number of meetings and discussions around the spring of 68 and the Peugeot center in the country. of Montbéliard.
After a first selection of rushes, I called on the radio director Cécile Laffon to edit these voices so that I could improvise and compose music while relating the May 68 episode told by the workers.
With the musicians of La Peuge En Mai we then mixed our music with these voices.

Around repetitive drums and bits of romantic melodies, this trio looks for its own trance between siren vocals, distorted bass and hammering drums. Bodies are then carried away by hypnotic pulsations, supported by sounds of haunted machines and synth layers. Gathered around the compositions of Yann Joussein, trio TRIBALSM3 uses a simple and hovering language, precise and repetitive. The three members being also improvisers they can speak any language, circulate iand express themselves freely.

Temperatures is the second album of the eccentric and explosive quartet Bribes 4. After having presented, in its first eponymous album, music which reconciles compositions with pop-rock influences like Robert Wyatt or Alasnoaxis and noise music and free jazz (Ground Zero , Albert Ayler). Bribes 4 throws itself into the void and gives birth to free and instinctive music. Dix Ailes is a musical proposal for 2 female voices, 1 percussionist, 1 electronic device and 1 place with high reverberation. Between minimalist music and pure pop, Dix Ailes plays on an acoustic illusion, that of making indistinguishable the origin of the sound (instrumental, loudspeaking or architectural), based on work on harmonics, frequency vibrations, the physical resonance of the place, psycho-acoustics.
Essentially centered on the voice, Dix Ailes addresses the notions of empty and full, of internal listening and silence, of liminarity and transformation. By a principle of initial composition based on symbols and archetypes, the music of Dix Ailes echoes universal rituals and myths, and shares with them a language that tempts to escape the sequences of rational logic, and thus to open up to an contemporary poetic landscape, made of archaic and invisible.

DIX AILES

Wonderbach is born from the meeting of improvisers Marie Takahashi on violin, Yann Joussein on drums, Olivia Scemama on double bass and Manuel Adnot on guitar. Each of them coming from different musical aesthetics ranging from contemporary music, noise, improvised music alternative and abstract, extreme music and from classical and jazz. These diverse influences come together as a singular sound identity, where music circulates in a totally improvised way.
Wonderbach emphasizes the full and generous sound of acoustic instruments, wood, skins, metals, while keeping a tension between a modal universe and a more experimental and austere world. In concert, the music is played without any sound system, emphasizing on the relation to the sound and the body. For their first album, Wonderbach wanted to insist on these characteristics by using a minimum of sound processing, to remain faithful to the sensations of proximity and intimacy that emanate from the band.

WONDERBACH

Around repetitive drum turns and bits of romantic melodies, this trio looks for its own trance between siren vocals, distorted bass and hammer drums. The body is then carried away by synthetic sound layers, supported by sounds of haunted machines and caught by the human voice.

Marked by primitive rhythms and sensations as much as by rich and complex sounds, the music of VEGAN DALLAS simultaneously evokes both distant imaginary sonorities and the urban universe around the Parisian périphérique. Convulsively constructed on a unique instrumentarium, VEGAN DALLAS’ live set reveals the powerful life force embedded within each individual. The sounds penetrate the bodily organs, imprinting their rhythms on our cells, liberating our energy.

VEGAN DALLAS "Electro Griot"

"It is the story of two human beings who are living in a situation that everything seems to be opposing but which, at exactly the same moment, and on both sides of the planet, are asking the same question about the existence, or the end of it. At the beginning, there is BRIBES "tout court", a duo impregnated with the electric and apocalyptic energy of free-jazz and free-rock. The quartet BRIBES 4 is a more explosive and eccentric version of this sound universe. Saxophonist Geoffroy Gesser and pianist Romain Clerc-Renaud open the doors of their duet to Swedish improvising singer Isabel Sörling and drummer Yann Joussein.

Between compositions and improvisations, this quartet mixes aesthetics: contemporary music, electroacoustics, electronics, free-jazz, free-rock.

BRIBES 4

Intersections of different sound elements, drifts without brutality, electric and dreamlike discharges and sizzles, Acapulco's vibrations have created their own replica, reversing the initial proposition, that of an unconventional approach to the guitar, by a scenic device with lighting. radical, where the body of the musician finds himself at the center of new musical densities.

BRIBES is the meeting of two improvisers who draw their trajectories on a soundtrack. A resistant membrane is pierced by two needles that advance from one side to the other. The sound object oscillates on a perspective of tangible and suggested planes. The lines of the two musicians cross and move away, stretching and contracting the territory of their music. Powerful bursts of free jazz combine with ethereal atmospheres.

BRIBES 2

A fairy electric harp sound distorted and distorted, the sensual game of one, then two guitars that sweat of saturation, a keyboard groove in the opposite direction, imperturbable and lyrico-naive saxophonist and trumpet player ... All this small world is led by a chaotic beater a little barbaric, which sign of his pen of pretty melodies with raw accents, fragile and disturbing. Through compositions with simple, jovial and haunting melodies, writing and improvisation come together in a music that combines the "organized" and post-modern free (inspired by Ornette Coleman's prime time and John Zorn's naked city) with progressive rock and disco. The writing is precise when it comes to connect this melodico-rhythmic section to eight heads; freedom is total to provoke a roaring percussive scandal. Ruptures of sounds and shifts of styles succeed and jostle each other in an absolute mastery of the games of each musician who take turns, separate and join, giving rise to a project brimming with enthusiasm, creativity and surprises.

COAX ORCHESTRA

"French band Actuum rarely break into anything other than a riot. The band set out their stall early, big sudden muscular jazz, Ronan Courty abusing his double bass from the get go, barely breaking for a groove that lasts more than a few bars while Louis Laurain on trumpet and Benjamin Dousteyssier on saxophone snarl and snap their way above the furious kit of Julien Loutelier, that reels and jabs in space he somehow manages to carve out of the musical madness. The band seems to embody a particular band of French malady in jazz (fellow Parisians Metal-o-phone also has a heavy dose and both bands work within the collective Coax) where the only option is to play the entire set of the absolute limits of your abilities. It's a set of extraordinary power and attack, with leaps into the world of total chaos and instability without ever slipping, retaining its musical identity amid the fury and flooring. "

InnerMap is a project dealing with the perception and representation of physical space. The memory of towns and cities - and the quasi-organic nature of their networks with their ebb and flow - are central to the work, acting as a metaphor for an internal, mental, cartography.

In this way, the performance of improvised music for guitar offers a succession of interconnected sonic landscapes. Powerful and overwhelming electrical drones saturate the environment; acoustic resonances liberate and open the space to new colours which enable an internal unfolding, a sensitive and immersive sonic experience.

Christmas carols by a group of young troublemakers! It tickles the imagination.
Imagine a CD featuring thirty musicians (see below), among the finest jazz scene in the making, great adventurers of music ... sticking to the carols! It flourished mercantile betrayal.

This group was led by Yann Joussein (dms) who provides artistic direction and arrangements (except for the compositions of Eve Risser).
No deception: it was good Christmas themes, plus two acidic compositions of a rickety Eve Risser wishes.
No betrayal: it is indeed a disrespectful music, taking the pretext of this festive period to deliver a powerful music, refreshing, all of humor ... and new! Do not look for an exact placement; it is the opposite that is sought, the shifts, the slippages, the opportunities to improvise within such a sound mass.

Judge with "My beautiful tree" (you say there is a capital S?). Before you hear it, remember a choir of cherubs singing this song ...
And of course, the treatment of these great classics varies from one "song" to another.
A totally offbeat CD, bursting with good humor and talent.

With Geoffroy Gesser, Julien Desprez, Fanny Lasfargues, Rafaelle Rinaudo, Jean Brice Godet, Lucie Laricq, Fidel Fourneyron, Xuan Lindenmeyer, Sylvaine Hélary, Antoine Viard, Yann Joussein, Hugues Mayot, Max Delpierre, Jérémie Piazza, Antonin Rayo

Coax sings Christmas

Avec Geoffroy Gesser, Julien Desprez, Fanny Lasfargues, Rafaelle Rinaudo, Jean Brice Godet, Lucie Laricq, Fidel Fourneyron, Xuan Lindenmeyer, Sylvaine Hélary, Antoine Viard, Yann Joussein, Hugues Mayot, Max Delpierre, Jérémie Piazza, Antonin Rayo

Coax chante noël

"As its name suggests, Pipeline balances crude ... crude oil ... but through the double bass refining plant, you arrive at a filtered essence infinitely more ethereal, which keeps all its energy .. through the overdrive rocker toms sound surprisingly relaxed bass drum ... In short, beautiful team beautiful formula and long road to become! " Gilbert Artman

PIPELINE

Gilbert Artman

Created in 2006, Radiation10 is a real mini mutant big band, combining the punch of a small band with the richness of a great orchestra, around an original instrumentation evolving between acoustics and all-electric.

Far from the archetypes of ensemble music, Radiation10 proclaims a music without leader, without borders, where jazz, progressive rock, chamber music, distilled in a still improvisatory still exist.

The multiple instrumental combinations serve an inventive and adventurous musical discourse, always pretext for the deployment of the energy of 9 free electrons.

Radiation 10

Member of the famous collective Coax (probably the most creative laboratory of musicians in France) and some famous groups that matter (Rearview mirror, DDJ, ...) Yann Joussein proposes his new project here.

More than a drum solo it's mostly a drummer solo that he offers with the radical desire to go beyond his instrument, without concessions! We find what made the originality of Mirror and what he likes in his musical models (Square Puscher or AphexTwin): the taste of sound atmospheres a little wild, rich in electric tears and rhythmic chaos lightning. In disc this project is called maliciously "Seal disemboweled", in "live" it is clearly less barbaric and especially it is the discovery of a sound universe unheard and strongly original.

Yann Joussein is one of the most promising young French musicians!

PHOQUE EVENTRE (Yann Joussein)

MeTaL-O-PHoNe is a French experimental pre-jazz trio. Distortion, feedback, delay. All of them have their own property of guitarists and their use of intriguing possibilities across the instrumental spectrum.

In applying them to the vibraphone, Benjamin Filament has found its way into the heart of an instrument so often typecast as polite and mannered.

The bright colors have a way to darker matter, with ambiguous pitches and ambiguous pitches, and spiritually connecting the vibes to their distant relative like the Javanese gamelan, Tibetan singing bowls and African thumb pianos.

The other two thirds of MeTaL-O-PHoNe respond accordingly, and bassist Joachim Florent and drummer Elie Duris give no quarter in creating a swirling tempest of rhythms and textures that is perfectly in sync with this altered percussive landscape.

MeTaL-O-PHoNE

MeTaL-O-PHoNe is a French experimental avant-jazz trio. Distortion, feedback, delay. All once the exclusive property of guitarists but no more and their usage have opened up intriguing possibilities across the instrumental spectrum.
In applying them to the vibraphone, Benjamin Filament has found sound something wild in the heart of an instrument so often typecast as polite and mannered.

The bright colours have given way to darker matter, buzzing with overtones and ambiguous pitches, and spiritually connecting the vibes back to its distant relatives like the Javanese gamelan, Tibetan singing bowls and African thumb pianos.

The other two thirds of MeTaL-O-PHoNe respond accordingly, and bassist Joachim Florent and drummer Elie Duris give no quarter in creating a swirling tempest of rhythms and textures that’s perfectly in sync with this altered percussive landscape.

Presentation

CO-FOUNDERS

JULIEN DESPREZ (Guitar, improviser, performer, composer)
If free jazz and rock were his first musical loves, he was quickly drawn toward more open artistic forms that disregard aesthetic boundaries and leave space for improvisation. Today, he approaches the guitar more as a drum set, an organ, a flexible and expandable instrument.
Projects: Agora, Julien Claire, Intégral…

SIMON HENOCQ (Electronics, guitar, improviser, composer)
Mainly self-taught, his approach deliberately exists outside of any genre classification, while expressing a strong affinity for free and radical music. A guitarist, electroacoustic artist, installation designer, and artistic producer, he observes, diverts, and reinvents instruments and electronic lutherie objects to create intense and singular performances where sonic experimentation plays a central role.
Projects: We Use Cookies, Do_Do, Encre Brune…

YANN JOUSSEIN (Drums, electronic percussion, improviser, composer)
Graduated from the CNSM in 2008 and awarded at the La Défense National Competition in 2010 and 2011, his music lies within an experimental approach combining extended drum techniques and electronic music.
Projects: Keep The Bastards Honest, Tribalism3, Håla Duett, Bribes 4…

ANTOINE VIARD (Saxophone, improviser, composer)
Graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in 2009, he founded the groups Pipeline and Hippie Diktat (as well as its large ensemble version “Monument(a)”) and his solo project Tumulus.
Projects: Tumulus, ParkR, -CA-…

ALSO FEATURING: Joachim Florent, Hugues Mayot, Emmanuel Scarpa, Clément Janinet, Benjamin Flament, Aymeric Avice, Fanny Lasfargues, Richard Comte, Rafaëlle Rinaudo, Geoffroy Gesser, Romain Clerc-Renaud, Julien Chamla, Sébastien Brun, Yoann Durant, Clément Edouard, Elie Duris…

CO-FONDATEURS

JULIEN DESPREZ (Guitare, improviser, performer, composer)

SIMON HENOCQ (Electronics, guitare, improviser, composer)
Projects : We Use Cookies, Do_Do, Encre Brune…

YANN JOUSSEIN (Drums, electronic percussion, improviser, composer)
Projects : Keep The Bastards Honest, Tribalism3, Håla Duett, Bribes 4…

ANTOINE VIARD (Saxophone, improviser, composer)
Projects : Tumulus, ParkR, -CA-…
