GUMMI

Gummi cheerfully kneads its sound material and plays with its elasticity, in limit stretching and searching for the breaking-point, driven by fantasy and jubilation. Over the course of a common musical desire, a flow develops, somewhere between the post-rock tension of Godspeed you! Black emperor and Farben de Schönberg's timbral shimmer.

Their album was recorded at the Performing Art Forum, a former convent that has become a performance and creation venue. Its multiple spaces are full of stories that resonate in the present, we can feel history through every wall. The sound imprints and acoustics, reproduced in detail, are constitutive of the music and have accompanied the musicians gestures and improvisations throughout the recordings. The progression of the pieces, each inspired by the place in which they were improvised, is the mark of this desire for elasticity affirmed in the title of the album: Gummi, meaning 'elastic' in German.

"The sound is taken from the hollow, the ink reveals the relief. I turned to xylogravure (engraving on wood) to produce stamps directly on the covers (of vinyl records). Faced with a mechanical reproduction, I pose a unique gesture, so that each copy is individual, which is nevertheless part of a multiple: the sleeves/prints are exhibited in a mural composition during our concerts and afterwards you can buy one or more pieces of the fresco, thus thus intervening on its aspect."
