SARA LEHAD

Sara Lehad is a musician, composer and sound performer working across experimental and electroacoustic music. Her practice moves between improvisation, synthesis and live performance, with a focus on no-input mixing: the mixing desk becomes a self-generating instrument, its feedback shaped through effects pedals and granular voice processing. Performance is central to her work. Sound emerges through physical gesture and attentive listening, turning presence itself into material. Through feedback and distortion, she explores zones of tension where rupture becomes resonance and reterritorialization can take place. She has performed at Les Instants Chavirés (Montreuil), LUFF – Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival (Lausanne), and l’Embobineuse (Marseille). Her project was selected for the Région Sud open call (2024) and the Jeune Création program of Collectif Coax (2025). Born in Algiers, she graduated in electroacoustic music from the Conservatoire de Pantin and is currently completing a practice-based PhD at Université Paris 8, where her research approaches amplified silence — the background noise of the mixer — as a metaphor for postcolonial silencing.

LIVE SOLO

Sara Lehad’s performances involve interacting with the feedback produced by inserting the output of a mixing desk back into its input. This signal passes through a series of effect pedals and encounters voice recordings stored in a granular sampler, thereby disturbing the initial audio signal. An embodied listening is implemented, invoking the body in a ventriloquial relationship with the machine.
